FLORIDA IN MAY

Every touring artist wants to go to Florida. Every touring artist wants to go to Florida in the winter. Well, we try and arrange that every year but it rarely comes to be! Not to worry though, May was still an awesome month to hit the sunshine state. We had plenty of opportunities to enjoy the sun and sea and I got to fulfill a life-long dream of swimming with Manatees! For me it is the ultimate spiritual experience, communing with these enormous, wild, gentle giants! I didn’t realize it at the time, but this is actually illegal to do, no doubt for the health and safety of these creatures, so I won’t go into any of the where or when details, but the High from this stayed with me for the entire trip and beyond!

Two days of playing at the Green parrot in Key West gave us more time to catch a little swim and sun time. Don always has to rent a scooter on the island so he can cruise its nooks and crannys, and feel the wind in his hair! If we were really nice to him, he would give we girls a ride on the back. We had some very cool folks show up at the Parrot during shows including Ritchie Crooks, former drummer for Dr. John, who now resides down there in Paradise. And one afternoon, I even got some schooling from a dog!

Bitter Sweet was our show at the Bamboo Room. Sweet cuz we always get a good crowd at this venue and the club is beautiful! So many great artists of many musical styles have passed through this venue. So the fact that they were closing their doors a few days after our performance was the bitter part. There is a plan to try and re-open at some point in time in the future, and we all have our fingers crossed.
