NEWS FROM DEBBIE DAVIES AND HER BAND

THOUGHTS ABOUT ROBIN ROGERS

By now most folks in the blues community are aware of Robin Rogers' illness and she and her husband Tony's plight to survive the financial hurdles that his brings.  I would like to just say a little something about Robin, here, and encourage everyone to find out how they can help her.  Many benefits are occurring all around the country and there are several places where you can find out this info, or how to make a donation such as her web site, robinrogers.com, piedmonttalent.com, and more.  One of the coolest ways to help them out and support great music is to purchase Robin's new CD on Blind Pig Records, BACK IN THE FIRE, direct from them on line.  This way you will have an awesome CD, and they will receive more proceeds than if you buy it at a store or on line at a store.

Robin Rogers is probably the most natural, soulful, real blues singer I have ever known. She is such a force of nature with her big voice, big, fun loving personality, and true soulfulness. She loves every minute of being on stage and really  "Brings it" every night.  I felt an immediate musical and sisterly connect with her from the moment we met.  I feel truly blessed to have gotten to work with her on tour as much as I did this year. I think her voice and stage presence is what people think of most when you talk of Robin Rogers, but Robin is truly a very cool harp player.  She's got chops and taste...and is so deeply bluesy with everything she does musically.  As a player, she added a lot to our shows, and I hope folks are aware of this.

Also, when an artist has as big of a presence as Robin does, it is easy to over look the song writing. I know her goal for a long time has been to develop her craft as a writer, and she so has reached that goal! She and her husband Tony have crafted some of the best stuff out there in the blues world.  In the music biz we call this kind of artist a "triple threat"!  Sings, plays, and writes.

Mostly, of course, I love Robin personally for her fun loving and funny personality.  She brightens up every room she walks into, and has given so many so much comfort with her healing tunes.  One can't help but feel her sweetness and kindness when she is in their presence.

Congratulations to Debbie Davies, winner of the 2010 BLUES MUSIC AWARD for Best Traditional Female Artist, THE KOKO TAYLOR AWARD.

News From Debbie Davies and her Band

Debbie Davies and Her Band have had a jumpin' first quarter for 2010. The Band has been touring from southern Florida up through the eastern Provinces of Canada. Special guest, Robin Rogers, jumped in the van for a tour of the mid west in March. The pairing of Davies and Rogers has already garnered rave reviews, and as a package, they have many summer festivals and touring dates coming up. Robin'sgritty vocals and soulful harp playng augment Deb's low down blues guitar and vocals!

April found Debbie hopping on Tommy Castro's tour buss, along with Joe Louis Walker, performing two weeks of shows as the Legendary Rhythm and Blues Cruise Review. Debbie will be joining the LRBC again on July 4th in Davenport, Iowa for the Mississippi Valley Blues Festival.

On May 6, Debbie Davies will perform with her trio at the Blues Music Awards in Memphis TN. Debbie is up for an award for best traditional blues artist this year. The band will then re-unite with Robin Rogers for a festival in Greensboro, NC, and a special Theater event in Charlotte, NC.

Debbie has added a recent live performance clip at her YOU TUBE site of her Band performing the tune, FISHNET, at The Towne Crier. Check it out!

Debbie Davies and Her Band are now offering clinics at music colleges, music stores, and special events. For an example of a recent 2010 clinic the band gave, please go to my clinic section.

Keep you eye on the website for more tour date information and up coming festivals.

HAPPY NEW YEAR from DEBBIE DAVIES and Her BAND

Most folks seem to be pretty happy to see 2009 come to a close, but for Debbie and Her Band, there were some very bright spots last year. Debbie performed on both of the Legendary Rhythym and Blues Cruises, played with Tommy Castro's LRBC Review, and she and the band released HOLDIN' COURT, on the Vizz Tone Label group. As we write this, HOLDIN' COURT is riding at number 2 on the National Roots Radio Charts (blues).

Probably the most exciting news of late is Davies' nomination for a 2010 Blues Music Award for Best Traditional Blues Artist/electric/female. You can vote for Debbie and for all of your favorite hard working blues artists at www.blues.org. If you are not a member of the BMA, it's easy to join at the website at the 25.00 entry level. If you are planning on going to the awards show on May 6th, it is in Memphis, and you will see Deb there!

In November of '09, Debbie was invited to Austria to teach at a week long blues clinic  followed by a week of tour dates through Austria and into Prague and Bratislava. Expect to see some blues letters from the road appear at the website about this beautiful opportunity to work with youth overseas.

An exciting new musical pairing has taken place between Debbie Davies and Robin Rogers.  The two met at festival in Ritzville, WA last summer and felt an immediate musical connection.  Robin is one of the top female voices on the scene today, along side Janiva Magness, Candye Kane, and Shemekia Copeland, and Susan Tedeschi, but she is also a soulful harp player.  The two perfomed their first show together on Dec. 17th at the Infinity Hall in CT.  The audiance would not let them go and so were treated to two and a half hours of music! A Deb and Robin tour has already been booked throughout the midwest in March, and they are receiving Festival offers at this time. Catch them at the Carolina Blues Festial on May 8th, and the Bill Town Blues Festival in PA on June 13th.

For Debbie Davies and Her Trio, the road begins in Feb. and heads to Florida. Then later in the month, they hit the opposite weather spectum as they tour through eastern Canada.Stay tuned to the website  www.debbiedavies.com for updates of all kinds!

Holdin Court to be Released October 27

Debbie Davies and her band are gearing up for the release of their new CD, HOLDIN' COURT, the street date being Oct. 27th.  Expect album details, sneak peaks, and advance copies coming soon at www.debbiedavies.com

This year, besides working on the new recording, the band and Deb have had fun stretching out and doing some interesting shows with other artists.  Spring and early summer found Deb doing guitar duties behind budding young blues Diva, Gina Sicilia.  Sept. 13th, blues legend Bobby Radcliff  joined the band on stage for a special show in New Jersey. On Sept. 17th Deb and the band performed in front of a very packed house at BB King's Blues club in NYC, opening for Johnny Winter.  Expect some really exciting touring packages coming to you in 2010.

Recently we have discovered some very fun videos on YOUTUBE that blues fans, and in particular, Debbie Davies fans, will really wanna check out.  Some footage has just been up-loaded of Albert Collins and the Icebreakers performing at a 'brand new' Buddy Guy's Legends Club in Chicago during the filming of a documentary.  Though it states that the video is from 1993, Deb informs us that it was indeed 1988. Perhaps the Documentary came out in '93.  Of course Buddy Guy gets up to play, and you will see a very young Davies swapping guitar licks with these masters!  Check out BLACK CAT BONE and I AIN'T DRUNK, both posted by "bobblues1"

Also at YOUTUBE, a fan of Debbie's tribute CD to John Mayall, (Key To Love) has made some entertaining "art videos"  of two of the tunes; Hard Road, with Deb and Mick Taylor, and Nature's Disappearing  with Peter Green. Just search YOUTUBE under Debbie Davies and you'll find them!

Stay tuned for "Holdin' Court!

Blues Cruise and Cross Country Tour

The first quarter of 2009 was really jumpin' for Debbie & her band. Of course the Blues Cruise was, in Debbie's words, "AWESOME BIG FUN!", and the recent five-week cross-country tour was a "Big Blues Blast!" We are posting photos from these travels on the website as Debbie's schedule slows down a bit and she is able to gather and submit them. Some pix are already up!

The band has returned to the studio to work on their latest CD, which is very close to completion. No release date yet, but we'll keep you posted.

AN EXCITING PIECE OF NEWS FOR DEBBIE AND LONG-TIME DRUMMER, DON CASTAGNO...the song Scratches, written by Don Castagno and recorded by Debbie on her ROUND EVERY CORNER CD, has just been picked up by HBO and will air in an episode of their hot new series, TRUE BLOOD, sometime in June. We will keep you posted on this too.

Debbie and bassist Casandra Faulconer are now playing and endorsing the new FENDER ROAD WORN axes. Way cool!

Please keep your eye on the website www.debbiedavies.com for summer festivals, special events, club dates, and new photos. Keep supporting live music!

THE NEW YEAR

Hey Everybody…HAPPY NEW YEAR! I was so lucky to begin the year in the Caribbean as a special guest on the Legendary Rhythm and Blues Cruise. The timing was perfect as far as getting some beautiful sun and air, and I had a ball hanging out with old pals Jimmy Thackery, Tommy Castro, Mitch Woods, David Maxwell, Reba Russell, The Cate Brothers, Tony Braunigal, Bob Margolin, John Hammond, and many more! And the jams were spectacular! If you wanna share some of the fun moments, photographer Joe Rosen has captured them beautifully and posted them here:

-Deb

The band is getting ready to head out on a big cross-country tour. Cass, Don and Deb will be traveling as a trio and picking up special guests to augment the band whenever possible. Stay tuned for details as to when they hit your town.

Newly added to Deb’s YOUTUBE site is another Retro Clip - of Debbie Davies performing her tune “24 Hour Fool.

What a Year!

2008 has been quite a year so far for Debbie Davies and her band. Because of the very full touring schedule, Deb has had a hard time squeezing in writing the Letters From the Road and submitting the accompanying, fun photos. But as the festival season comes to a close, Debbie will make up for lost time and share some very cool experiences with everybody.

Meanwhile, Debbie is gonna be in a song-writing mode, working toward a new CD. She will also, during this time, be accepting a small number of guitar students. If you are interested, this will be taking place in the New Haven area of CT and you can email debbiedaviesmus@sbcglobal.net

Speaking of CT, Deb and the band are looking forward to seeing all you local residents at their holiday party this Dec. 11th at Stage One in Fairfield.

Special Event July 19,2008

Debbie Davies will be doing a rare, Southern Ct. performance at the acoustic cafe this coming Saturday, July 19th. Deb brings her trio to the cafe which features Casandra Faulkoner on Bass and Don Castagno on drums. As Debbie's long time drummer, Don has also written over half of the band's material. A prolific songwriter, Don's tunes have also been covered by Coco Montoya, Tab Benoit, Kenny Neal, Anson Funderburgh and Sam Meyers, Popa Chubby, Dave Gross, and Charlie Musselwhite.

Born in Thunder Bay. Canada newest member of the trio, "Cassie" Faulkoner, had chosen to pursue her musical career in the renowned music city of New Orleans. Her 10 years in that city gave her the opportunity to work with many luminaries of that musical pool including Gatemouth Brown and Papa Mali.

Cass was forced to leave the city after the Katrina tragedy and now resides in Queens, N.Y. She brings her beautiful soul and deep grooves now, to the Debbie Davies Band.

As Debbie and the boys prepare to embark on a month-long, cross-country tour, the music for their new CD is complete and in the hands of Telarc Records.

A release date for the project looks like it's gonna be sometime in August. And a new RETRO-CLIP from 1991 is up on YOUTUBE featuring Debbie Davies and Janiva Magness on tour with Fingers Taylor and the Lady Fingers Review. The Lady Fingers toured as the opening act for Jimmy Buffett's Outpost Tour. Check it out at www.youtube.com/debbiedavies.

The posting of this clip is quite timely as Deb and Janiva will hook up three times during this upcoming tour and join forces for some very special shows. The package will perform on March 16th at Famous Daves in Minneapolis, March 17th at East Gate Hall in Wausau, WI, and April 7th in Bay City Michigan at the State Theater. Joining the band on bass is Rod Carey. Many blues fans will remember Rod as part of the force, along with Per Hanson and Bruce Katz, behind Ronnie Earl during his 'hey-day.' Since Ronnie's retirement, Rod has been a member of the Bruce Katz Band and has appeared on numerous blues albums, including Deb's latest and an earlier Telarc release, HOMESICK FOR THE ROAD.
